Part 1 of the New Paper Saga
Recently, I have stopped buying The New Paper which used to be the source of my daily news dosage. I realised that almost every story printed in the paper can actually be obtained from various websites at the click of the button on the internet. So it’s pretty much a waste of money reading the same old stories (especially the soccer news) over and over again as I have gained this habit of logging on every single night.
But it was by chance that I got a copy of The New Paper on Tuesday when I was travelling back home by bus. Since it was screaming out “READ ME”, I couldn’t resist since I had nothing else to do. As I was browsing through the pages, a few stories caught my eye.
The headline reads, “Fare deal for poly students, please” and I was thinking why not private students? This was a topic of discussion in the Student Council meeting that I attended just the day before. We were arguing that it’s pretty unfair that students from government schools enjoy concessions unlike students from private schools. We are all students after all so why can’t there be equal privileges dished out to the same group of people? Why the double standards?? And its pretty clear from the article that the transport providers like Transitlink have the final say in whether certain groups of students get concessions or not. So there you have it Exco members. You can start by approaching the relevant authorities for a start to bring cheer to the thousands of MDIS students.
